It's Coming....

Yep, with only two weeks and counting (!!!), preparations are in overdrive for Elle's 2nd birthday...
well, in truth, I've been working on it for several months already. (Shhh!)
My house is being overtaken by tutus, wings, wands and more ...and I'm loving every corner of the glittery clutter!

I created this invitation in photoshop.  Saw one on a website that I loved, but didn't necessarily want to pay the $$$, so I thought, "I can do that..."  and I did!    Well, kind of.  It's close enough, and more fitting anyway because I was able to change the color palette and add a little fairy!

Any guesses on the theme? ;)

Stay tuned...

PS...Thanks to my wonderful hubby and our pals Justin D and Charles Le for the photoshop tutorials and amazing pic of Elle!

Sweets n Tweets (Elle's 1st Birthday)

So as I'm currently obsessing over Elle's 2nd birthday (May 2012) I figured I could start this blog off with memories of her 1st birthday!!!

We had a few surprises, (still hating the people who stole our venue right from under us) but the day turned out pretty much perfect and most importantly, the birthday girl had a great time and looked absolutely fab!

I finally decided on a "Sweets n Tweets" theme - yeah, I made it up - basically candies and cute little birdies.

But let's start with the outfit...
Yes, rhinestones and a tutu... did you really think otherwise?  Since this momentous occasion, I have mastered the art of making my own tutus, but I can't take credit for this one.  The tank and tutu were made to match the theme.  I did add the bow - only after Elle refused to wear it in her hair.  Sigh.

The favors were fun.  My Mum (who is perfectly English and awesome by the way, pictured below) bought me a Cricut.  I just had to use this pic of her with Elle because it is one of my favorites of the two together.  Ever.

Okay, back to the party.  For favors we had a candy bar.  Purchasing all of the cute pink/white/brown paper I could find, I quickly got to cutting! (Cricutting?)  Anyways, I also found these adorable pink and white polka dot treat bags at Michaels.  (Keep in mind, Elle's birthday is in May - close to Easter, so it was pretty easy to find these to match.)  I used different patterned papers to create the birdies (cricut cartridge - Create-A-Critter) and added a thank you note from the birthday girl to each treat bag.

Unfortunately, hubby didn't get to the candy in time to take pictures before the kids invaded it.  Oops, but you get the idea.  Just picture the apothecary jars full. ;)  Some of these jars were borrowed and others I found at various thrift stores.  The candy scoops and tongs were very inexpensive and found in the Oriental Trading catalog.  We are to be good stewards with our money!

I also placed various photos in matching frames from Elle's 3, 6 and 9 month shoot. (sniff)

Seeing how this was a party for a 1 year old, there were plenty of babies attending.  (Go figure.)  I didn't want to leave anyone out, so I made these "Baby Tweets" for them... candy pretzel bags (Joann's) filled with Gerber puffs and yogurt melts... and I couldn't resist adding some bubbles.
Cute, right?

I used the computer to print up some of the cupcake topper rounds (others were just smaller birdies via the cricut cartridge - Straight from the Nest, rhinestones added of course) and the "Thanks for making my 1st birthday so Tweet!" notes on the goodie bags.  Used various sized circle punches that I borrowed or purchased.

Elle's smash cake was made by Frosted Cakery:
http://frostedcakery.com/ if you are local, they are amazing!  Great people too.  The cupcakes were made by yours truly.

When the party ends, the pants come off!
Here's Elle making room for all her new treasures.

Not sure who had more fun - Elle at the party or Mommy planning it, but all in all I think it turned out pretty good for this new Mommy's 1st time.  Okay, now to start planning her 2nd birthday...
